Re: [RC] response to Diane re BoD - Diane Trefethenbobmorris@xxxxxxxx wrote:No it doesn't. A month is the lead time the editors would like to have but in an emergency they can make additions quite late. To use your example, a block for the agenda could be designed into the Dec & Jan issues with the actual information to be supplied a week or two before Dec goes to press. Or perhaps a more workable plan would be to post the agenda in just the Jan issue giving you until mid/late Dec to supply the actual info. I'm sure you know what your main topics to consider will be 1 1/2 months out.Remember, for something to be in the EN requires a minimum of one month lead time. If the BoD were NOT considering revising the 2006 dues structure and then some single event, say Katrina, had such a substantial impact on AERC finances that without a dues increase, bankruptcy loomed, this would strongly indicate that the BoD had not properly handled its fiduciary responsibily to maintain sufficient reserves. The economy of the nation has a bearing on the finances of the AERC. Example, the current weather problems effect on gas prices. Could that have been predicted four months back? A good concept but business does not work that way.Yes business does work that way. They're called Proxies and they are mailed to all the voting shareholders months before the Annual Meeting. Just posting an agenda, by comparison, should be a piece of cake. True. Long term goes on the agenda, immediate crisis gets unanamously approved as an emergency. The Board must be positioned to react to all conditions, both long term and immediate. Ahh... but that's what you were elected to do <evil grin>... finding concemsus among 26 directors is a bit more complicated. Voting in government elections is down too. It's tough all over. So let's dispense with the presidential elections and just let the Electoral College choose our presidents. Membership apathy after the fact does not justify a BoD failure to inform and elicit membership opinion before deciding on an important issue.Another factor is the apathy of the AERC membership to become involved. Please do not take my comments personally as they are certainly not meant to be an attack on you or your efforts. I just feel that the SOP of the Board needs to change from presenting faits accomplis to letting members know ahead of time what's brewing so they can register their opinions. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
