This is ALWAYS rough. Sometimes the horses
are so fragile in their 'gut' we forget as we see them so strong in so many
other ways. None of us knows when, we just know 'it' will happen to all
animals on earth. Years ago an endurance rider lost a horse. Some
were quick to blame the problem on the endurance rider. Nice to see those
days are past. That rider said: My horse grew up on my daddy's ranch
and did not have deworming etc so I think that was a contributing
factor.
Oh Ed....I am so sorry. I DO know how you are feeling too. I
had to put my horse to sleep 5 years ago from a broken hip that I had ridden
over 5000 miles. If you don't have this item now, maybe you can get
one. I have a piece of Booy's tail hair braided. It is the only
part of him that I still have. Wish that there was more that I could do
or say, but I am afraid there is nothing that can take his place. We are
ALL going to miss him on the trail.

I am very sad to report that my wonderful,
courageous, iron-willed mustang, Gorgeous George, died last night from a
severe case of colic. Needless to say, I am devastated. There
are many of you out there who got the chance to see him in action, so I felt
the need to share.
I am just glad that I had these few years with him, but of course,
regret that there will be no more. He always did everything I
asked of him, and he finished every ride he ever started. From the
palmetto swamps of Central Florida to the High Sierras of the Tevis Trail,
he did it all.
Thanks for the memories, and thanks to lots of you out there for
admiring him and encouraging us along the
way. Ed
