[RC] hard roads effect, lameness - Sky Ranch

I have concerns about "hard" road travel. Some say it's not harmful, in
fact will strengthen the legs. Some say it will cause injury, lameness.
Which is it?

I will say that this is the main issue that I have been afraid to go to
endurance riding, and longer distances, because of my 'fear' of the hard
surface conditions, too much road travel. I don't want to hurt my horse.
He's a 16 yr old Arabian.

Please remember I am a newbie, this may have been extensively covered
previously, so I apologize if this is an old question ... but I don't have
an answer. I want my horse to last forever (don't we all), I don't want him
lamed from going over too much of the hard road conditions. We do most of
our conditioning on trails, very little road travel. When it gets 'hard' I
slow down. Am I incorrect to do this?

Thank you,
Carla Richardson
