[RC] ford trucks - Laney HumphreyI'll just pass this on for what it's worth. I have a friend who lives on a Big Sur, CA, mountain. Her road to her house is several miles of narrow, twisty, steep, potholed, & did I say narrow and steep?, gravel and DG (decomposed granite). And in the winter it all turns to sticky mud because of the DG. She has a 2003 Ford 250 her husband bought because it looked BIG. In the first couple of years they had to replace the transmission twice. The newest one was beginning to show signs of not being right so the service people really quizzed them about how they drive. Neither of them are hot rodders! They were down shifting going both up and downhill and really being careful. Well... the service technician suggested that they try putting it in 4WD Lo (i.e., as low as you can get). That has solved the problem. (They were using 4WD high.) But there is nothing in the service or driving manual that says to do that. So, if you have a similar situation you might try using the low gear.Laney =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
