Re: [RC] Girly Trucks - Lynne Glazer

Oh, things I learned along the way with this '01 truck: replace the fuel filter every 30K. Mandatory--the injector pump gets cooled by the fuel, and they are spendy if you overheat one (I think I did, but they replaced it and the fuel pump under warranty! The old '95 went 100K between fuel filters. But it only went 30K between tranny filter oil changes, this '01 goes 100K between.

My best war story about this truck: 84,500 miles on the factory Michelins. (You know the difference between a war story and a nursery rhyme? A nursery rhyme starts out "once upon a time...", and a war story starts out "Now this ain't no S**T!") The '95 went 60,000 per set, and that one was a dually, so getting the extra mileage was really nice.

I think I'll get my brake pads replaced at 100K. :-) Salesmen, I had no trouble getting technical with either of the sales guys on these trucks--and I was quite the shade tree mechanic, with a maintenance specialty in the Army too. Dealing with the fleet guys was the way to go.

I am still driving a 2000 Dodge Dually 3500, manual 6 speed tranny, 354
rear gears, dealer installed exhaust brake. At 5 years old and 80K miles
(95% towing!) we have replaced brake pads. That's it. A girly truck is
one that does not need work regularly, in my book! Change the oil and
forget about it. That's my truck!

I have a 1999 Dodge Dually (sold Sept 98)....and have only had to do brake
pads also...although brake sensor light just had to be replaced...it's been
a terrific
truck; very happy with it,a and for most of those miles it towed a 5 horse
trailer and
a big camper.

How are you doing with tires? I almost made it to 40,000 on the factory
tires and now,
at about 77,000 am close to needing tires again. I have 4-W drive and the
410 rear axle.
