Re: [RC] Gaited horses - Lynne Glazer

When my black filly was young, I cut out the article that the Voice of the TWH did on you guys and your versatility award for endurance and had it on the bathroom mirror for years. I think Queenie and your maniacal mare were related. She was a good girl until she was four and conditioned...then she never gave up. It would take hours to warm her up to show her, she'd never get deep behind (because why did you need to, on the trail? <g>) With most horses if they asked for more, you could head them up a hill and they'd slow down after a while, tiring. Not her. She was a tremendous loss, to a pipe corral accident by herself in the middle of the night.

I love the gaited horse mind. It is truly different and worthy. Then there's the Lipizzan mind--grounded to the center of the earth. Yesterday out for a walk, I jumped over a hay bale for the heck of it, and turned around to my filly who was following me, loose, and invited her to join me. She never hestitated, walked over it, though her last back leg kinda slid down the front of the bale since the thing was too wide for her. Gorgeous smooth gaits that I can't (but will) wait to ride. Of course, the substance thing, she'll be a widebody, we'll see how the cross works for endurance, we already know she's a draysodge pony with a lot of jump too.

Tis..tis...tis...Lynne what are you saying? My little princess was wonderful on the trail. She never spooked. She always went forward. Just because I had to go into weight training to hold her back - doesn't really mean anything. Everyone could stand weight training to keep their upper body toned and buff.

PS: Don't pay any attention to the nickname - Hell bitch - that some though she deserved.
PPS: With all this talk about 100's I sure which she was 8 yo again.

Laney, congrats on your new kid!

I had TWHs before I had Arabs, and I'll keep my Arabs...just choosing the comfortable ones (they sure aren't all jackhammers) and putting a big splash o' Lipizzan in there for substance and sanity. ;-)

Ya gotta shop so carefully for the right TWH, it's very difficult to find the good'uns. I had a TWH from a week old who was hotter than any Arab, and my other one got very competitive if another horse was along. Lots of "want to" from both of 'em.
