[RC] Cross-ties - Flora HillmanEd wrote: "...By the way, I hate cross ties. If I had my way, I would remove each and every one for every barn in the country, period no exceptions. Even for detailed grooming, you can teach a horse to stand quietly. It is much safer. .. " I got news for you, Ed -- if you ever tried to touch my cross ties I'd chase you out of my county with a shotgun. I have four sets in my 5 stall barn and they are almost always in constant use for when we are harnessing up the carriage pair, or bathing/dressing the three foxhunters to have them ready to arrive at the 7:30AM meet on time. Plus I use them to hold my ponies when I'm shoeing, or pulling manes, or just teaching a pony to be patient and wait their turn. Maybe it's the difference between east and west but...you won't find a barn in the east without them. They are indispensable ... and the next best thing to having a full time groom to hold your horse. If someone has a horse that has a problem with being groomed on cross ties, then that is a training issue. It is far safer to have a horse tied than untied. All it takes is one second with your back turned to an untied horse, and they can take off -- running havoc through a barn or simply taking off out of sight, dashing into a road and running a very real risk being hit by a car. Not for me. I'll keep my wonderful cross ties, thank you very much.
