[RC] weight divisisions---> CTR vs. Endurance - Tracey SmithAnd CTR (I can only speak of NATRC as that's the only CTR I have done) has weight divisions for basically the same reasons...to make the playing field more fare....Kate already mentioned how they are split up...just lightweight and Heavyweight unlike AERC. Personally I've ridden under both AERC and NATRC and don't think one is better than the other...variety is the spice of life you know. I don't have a problem with riders being able to "run" with their horses in endurance either. I don't do it...but then again I don't "race" either. For me "To finish is to win" is really what it's all about....and I condition my horse so that it can be expected to be ridden the miles. Those who wish to run...have fun...I'm staying on board unless it is not safe to do so. Oh... that's easy. The weight divisions (4 of them actually) are for the RIDERS not the horses. Heavier riders who did a good job conditioning and riding their good horses hardly ever won because they were usually beaten by some skinny, young woman. So, to give these riders a crack at national awards, they instituted weight divisions. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
