Re: [RC] Preventing rubs w/silicone or latex - rides2farThat said, Karen, I do remember Nina Warren saying she put bathroom calking under splint boots to prevent rubs. > Did this work? I ask because my horses need splint guards to prevent nicking their legs, but then get rub marks from the splint guards. I was interviewing Nina about when she owned Jedi and she told me the story. She said that no matter what brush boots she used in the rear, they rubbed him. Said she had a barrel full of boots. Then one day she had desitin all over her horse and a vet made the comment, "Oh, you caulking him now?" and she thought..."hmmm". She said next time she washed his ankles well and put him in the trailer for the ride and let them dry (don't remember if they dried before loading or that's when she put on the caulk). Anyway, she started out putting caulk on under the boots and eventually just discontinued the boots and put a glob of caulking on instead. I think it was Jody Buttram told me she tried it after she read what I wrote and it wouldn't stay on. I dunno. Never tried it myself. She said the vets & everybody always thought it was Desitin and she didn't say otherwise.
