Re: [RC] re: Truman's comments on 100s - Truman PrevattCindy Collins wrote:our discussion, Truman, how do you know your gelding can't do 100s. You've never entered him in one.Because he has been in my pasture for 12 years. I've ridden him as my only horse for 9 years. I sit up at night an nursed him through a case of West Nile. I sit in the UF vet clinic over night as they poured fluids in him. I know his every spook, I know his every move. I know he loves to work but I also know that pushing him to a 100 would be abusing our relationship. He might be able to finish a 100, in fact I suspect he could. However, what does that prove. All it proves is I can push a horse that is not cut out for a 100, and make him do one. Nope that's not for me. I know a 100 mile horse, I have one. I know the fire in the belly and the glint in the eye. I know the look and feel. The Jbird doesn't have it. I liken the mare to a Navy Seal - the grit, the guts the desire - which is required for a 100 mile horse. I liked the Jbird to a fighter pilot - go get the job done and get back in time for eggs and beer for breakfast. How do I know, I know because he is my partner and we as a team do what is best for the both team members and a 100 is not it. That's how I know.
