[RC] FW: [RC] Amazing 1st 100--Another One - Amber B FortThis is so true! I dream of doing a 100 one day! That and life stuff just happens that puts a kink in your plans. The current horse that I am riding, I believe is more of a 50miler. We have done 1 25 together, my second. Therefor, I am still short in the actually competing part and know there is still a lot to learn. I am hoping to compete in my first 50 by the end of this year. I will try to do a 100 on him maybe next year to see if he has what it takes. My concern with him, he is sooooo laid back and his walk is slower than a turtle, that I feel most of his traveling is going to be at the trot or canter. Now the mare I am waiting to get over foaling duties, I feel will be an awesome 100 miler. She is due in Feb 2006. I can't wait till I can finish her training and start conditioning her. I do feel that the 100 is the true test, however, if there were no 25's I wouldn't be able to even compete. I wouldn't mind trying a 75-80 before going for the 100 either. PLEASE, keep the stories coming, I really enjoy reading and learning from them. Amber Fort Knight Hawk Ranch "Performance with out parameters" Home to the Black Arabian stallions: Kaysa Jerry (72% CMK) Black Streak (Pure Polish) In following the thread about 100s and why more people don't do them I can't help but wonder if it isn't because many riders have a body condition that makes it more painful than fun. And that's something that most of us don't want to own up to either. Some riders make it look so easy to race in off a 100, jump out of the saddle and hit the ground running. We can't all do it and it's embarrassing to be creeping out of the saddle and easing to the ground trying to look "together" and casual when you want to scream but can't because all your friends are watching. There are probably many other riders like myself who refuse to do it on pain meds. So that's one theory about 100s FWIW. Betty NW Region
