Re: [RC] Amazing 1st 100--Another One - Dabney Finch

Barbara,

That is so funny.  I'm the exact opposite: I've had to read and/or melatonin myself to sleep my whole life.

EXCEPT, after the first 100 I completed, which was your SP.

Although I was not in  shape, I fulfilled the strict instructions I'd received to get off and walk my horse Zaraf (also his first 100, and only 2nd endurance ride) up every hill.

It took us almost 19 hours to complete (and  your finish line vet as much as said our horses looked great but they were sick of being under saddle and we should have gone faster).

This was the only time I'd ever experienced what they'd called in my childhood books "falling asleep before her head hit the pillow."

Even though I was stiff, sore, grimy, and still in my riding clothes the next morning when I woke up in the tack room of our bumper pull, that is still the best sleep I've ever had....

After reading the statement below, I just had to recall an incident on a 100-miler of many years ago:  Somewhere into the night, I arrived at a vet check and my husband was crewing for me.  I, who can go to sleep at some of the oddest opportunities, lay down on a stack of lumber and fell sound asleep while Lud was taking care of the horse.  Jut one of those memories........

Some of my best memories were on the 100's.  After my first 100 at Brothers, Oregon, I had doubts I would make it (the horse was fine).  The thing I noticed after the ride was then the 50 mile rides became much shorter and were much each on me.
