[RC] jack mules - Susan E. Garlinghouse, D.V.M.There's a big difference between the average temperament of an ungelded donkey and an ungelded mule. Don't ask me why it's so, but it is, at least IME. We have several donkey jacks in the practice, and they run the gamut of temperaments just as stallions do. But an ungelded jack *mule*, no way. I agree with Sarah on that point---no reason to keep them intact and about a buhzillion reasons to cut 'em. Never met a nice one yet. John Henry was a jack and just as sweet as you could ask for. Our eldest daughter, then ten, handled him without any problems at all. I guess we were just lucky.
