Those rides were never intended to rate points or awards either. Ok, I admit I haven't paid perfect attention to every post on this thread, but has anyone actually suggested that "fun rides" should be officially sanctioned by AERC?? I'm trying to figure out who would be pushing for something like that? Would it be just to increase AERC membership?? I can't see any other motivation. I think the "fun rides" are a good way to attract new riders who will hopefully go on to more, as Dawn pointed out about her ride. I know a lot of riders, particularly Arabian dressage folks (since those are what many of my friends are; as I am/was) who think it's insane to ride as far as we do. I would think these are the kind of people that could go out on a 15 mile fun ride -- probably expecting to be really really tired -- and find out just how easy that is. And maybe they'd be hooked (particularly when they see how much their horses enjoy it vs arena work). BUT, I sure can't imagine making them AERC sanctioned events. ~Nicole Zephyr Arabians http://www.zephyrarabians.com KattWmn Web Design http://www.kattwmn.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
