Re: [RC] what to do with the old horse - Chris PausThe first thing I'd like to say to our guest with the old horse is DON'T WRITE A WHOLE MESSAGE IN ALL CAPS. It's hard to read and it's considered shouting! And second, I agree with the others. 24 isn't that old, unless he has some kind of infirmities that make it difficult for him. I have a stallion who is turning 22 this spring and he's goign strong. My main endurance horse is 18 going on 3, I think. One of my broodmares is 18. Older horses have a lot of wisdom that they can share with us and the rest of the herd. The other thing I've learned in life is that older horses don't always do well with change. If they have lived most of their lives in one place and get sold to another place, it's often very difficult for them emotionally and they shut down, and then go downhill physically. If there's an economic reason you can't keep this horse, then find a rescue situation for him. There are places that specialize in older horses. or find a home for him where his wisdom and generous nature will be appreciated. chris --- Rae Callaway <tallcarabians@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: ===== "A good horse makes short miles," George Eliot Chris and Star BayRab Acres http://pages.prodigy.net/paus =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
