Re: [RC] How To - Share a Trailer Ride?? - Sisu West Ranch"....We share paying at the gas stops. Rather than divvy it in half at each stop, we take turns paying. I catch...." It may be wise to check state laws and insurance when making arrangements. WI has a law that you have to be a licensed livestock hauler to accept any kind of compensation (including sharing of expenses) for hauling horses in a trailer. It may be unique in the nation, I don't know. When I hauled for people in WI, I told them this and said that I would haul for free, but that after the horses were all home I would not object to a gift. I don't know if this would have held up in court, but if there had been an accident on the road, I could have answered in a clear conscience that I had not accepted anything of value for hauling the horses. When I sold some horses to people that had no trailer, I did not charge them for delivery. I sold the horse delivered to their place, with their ownership starting when it was safely out of the trailer.
