Re: [RC] [RC] dogs - Jeremy Olson

Stacy, I love my dogs and I try to be more than courteous with them. I think that your post was in excellant taste and well said (no slammin here). I am glad you had the guts to reply with your name unlike the "guest writer". We need to be reminded at times that not everyone likes the same things we do. I do have a comment for the "guest writer", if my parents did not bring me to rides as a child I wouldn't still be doing this sport twenty-five years later. Remember the children now are our riders and volunteers of the future. We need them to keep the rides going. I do not have children of my own, so I am not an angry father posting. Just using some common sense on the subject.

Okay...I know I'm going to get slammed by all the dog lovers, and I've been biting my toungue, but I'll even reply with my name! I have to agree with this "guest". I don't like dogs either. Never really have. Now, I'm not saying that a friend of mine here or there (and you know who you are - Barbara) who doesn't have a dog that I actually do like, but in general, I too don't like them "walking up to me, jumping on me, licking me, sniffing me - wether or not they are on a leash"...Just as the guest writer said. I don't like the smell of a dog nor dog smell on me. I'd rather step in a HUGE pile of horse manure anyday before I step in a little piece of you-know-what from a dog. They just aren't my thing...sorry. I'm always pleasant about it, and try not to make a big deal about it, but it's always up to the owner to make sure their dog stays away...not me. Don't let your dog wander around, jump on people, etc. Too many times, I've had to go change my clothes because a dog
jumped on me and got my clean clothes dirty. Just because I like other animals and "seem" to be an animal lover, don't assume I like your dog.
I don't sleep well as it is whether at home or camping. The last thing I need is a dog barking, howling, etc. all night long. Last year, there was a dog barking ALL summer near my house, running around, below my bedroom window, etc. I couldn't take it....getting NO sleep at all. The dog was not a dog I recognized, but obviously their owner could give two cents about the dog since it was wondering all night. I called the dog warden to please come get the dog. Never could catch it...finally winter came...dog went home. This year, I had to ask my neighbor to please keep her dogs in at night. They were running around MY house barking, chasing my horses, etc. and once again I was up from 1:30-5:00 in the morning. She was truly sorry and her husband was also feeling the pain...he wasn't sleeping either! I really don't like dogs. Sorry. For all the dog lovers out there, I only ask that you look at every person out there as someone like me (and guest writer)....maybe they aren't a
dog-lover like you. Please don't assume that we all like dogs and keep your dogs to yourself and in your space. I don't assume everyone likes horses just because I do. I hope you understand.

Thank you from a non-dog lover....
Stacy

ps...I won't take any nasty slammin personal... :)

I wish EVERYONE would keep their dogs and children at home. If you want to take them places with you, take them on your next camping trip, not to a ride! Poor Muffy can just stay home with the dog sitter and the kids can stay with grandma! And I don't care what your circumstances are, you CAN find a way to keep them at home.

I hope ride managers will come to see the sense in banning dogs from rides. Many horse shows I have attended say in their premium "ABSOLUTELY NO DOGS ON THE SHOWGROUNDS AT ANY TIME". Others are a bit more lenient and say in the printed program "ALL DOGS MUST BE LEASHED AND SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES". If you are not going to ban dogs, at least please demand that dogs be leashed at all times. I don't care how obedient your dog is, put it on a leash. Raise the cost of "the jail" so owners actually feel like they are paying a fine instead of paying for cheap doggie day care.

I do not like dogs. I do not like them walking up to me, jumping on me, licking me, sniffing me - wether or not they are on a leash. I am not shy about kicking a dog that comes up to me and invades my space. Dog owners need to UNDERSTAND that there are plenty of people that DO NOT LIKE DOGS and we do not find their friendly little dog cute at all. I don't care how friendly or cute you think your dog is, I still don't want it anywhere near me, nor do I want to step in its crap in the middle of the night or be awoken by the damn thing barking its head off.

That's all I have to say about dogs.
