If the thumping horse also is failing to recover, has hydration issues, etc. then there is certainly cause for concern--but the thumps are just one more straw on the camel. When that's the ONLY problem and all other parameters are good, IMO thumps are a sign to be cautious, but need not be a sign to quit.
