Re: [RC] benadryl for fly bites - Sarah SimmonsI used it one time when my horse was an absolute mess. I bought the caplets and I did it based on weight. I figured the "average" adult weighs 150 lbs and they take 1-2 tablets every 4 hours. My horse weighs 1,000 lbs so I figured 7-14 caplets for my horse. I cut the ends off the caplets and dumped the powder in my horse's feed. I also bought the benadryl anti-itch gel and put that on all his welts after I hosed him off with fresh, cool water. Within an hour it was obvious it was working, and it only took the one administration the whole fly season. Whatever bit him that made him break out in welts and hives all over he either got used to after that, or he didn't get bit like that again. I have also poured half a big bottle of pepto bismal in my horse's feed when he has had diarrhea and that has worked too, but kaolin pection is the best stuff for horses, except when you run out and the feed store isn't open! Good luck to anyone using this stuff!
