I'm of the opinion that "miles & miles of conditioning rides" are not
the same as participating in sanctioned 100 mile endurance rides.
And I agree with that 100%, but Tevis does not
require that the rider has participated in any 100 mile ride. What I'm not so
sure about is that having done 3 50's makes a rider more qualified than someone
who has been conditioning for a few years, even though that rider may
not participate in sanctioned rides, whether out of family commitments on
the weekend, or lack of transportation or "whatever". I know that the the intent
is to make it a safer ride, hopefully increase the completion rate,
and do what's best for the horse.
Regarding the list being updated, my neighbor is
shown as #31 on the waiting list and was told today that she's in, so if your
before #31, you're in luck!
