[RC] re: Garmin etrex legend - Cindy Collins

Interesting thread...my husband and I own three GPS units. I own a
Legend, he owns a Vista, and I recently bought a little garmin foretrex
101 wrist model. What I can tell you is that I have had very good luck
with using mine, leaving it in my shirt pocket. I know that both Tom Noll
and I have used our GPS models and have enough BigHorn 100 coordinates
that we could ride the trail using our GPS even if we did not know the
trail. Occasionally there is a waypoint that's off due to poor signal,
but you can look at the map and make sense of it. I used mine on portions
of both the 01 and 04 XP and honestly, every time I went the wrong way it
was because I questioned my GPS and didn't believe it. Obviously, living
out here in Wyoming I don't spend a lot of time with a thick canopy of
trees, but my GPS accurately mapped the canyons of the BIg Horn. At home
I use my little wrist model when I condition or hike. It tracks my speed,
mileage, elevation and maps out a little trail. It's a neat toy and I
also think it's great for safety. I always have my gps and my cell phone
on my body (not the horse) since I ride alone much of the time.
Hopefully, if I am dumped and too hurt to get home, I can get help. Good
luck with your GPS. Cindy
