Re: [RC] Ticks:No chemicals for us! - Chris PausI am big into organic everything, Ray. Years ago, I was a writer for the Mother Earth News and several other "back to the land" magazines. I'd get carloads of city folk at my place in Wisconsin asking for advice on how to do this or that. I was adamant that everything on our farm was grown organically. I have relaxed my standards somewhat, but still avoid pesticides and herbicides as much as possible.
I DO pick em and drown em. But I'm afraid it the tick is on you for longer than a couple of seconds, it can do the damage, so just picking them off will not prevent tick borne diseases. And it appears that getting a disease like erlichiosis will not confer immunity on you. IE, you can get it again.
In this case, I am going to liberally apply DEET when I go riding somewhere other than an arena or roads. I do not want to be this sick again when it can be prevented. It's not a disease to fool around with. If you get it, you just may find yourself reaching for a can of OFF.
