Sarah We see allergic reactions to menthol, citronella, tea tree and other aromatic oils fairly commonly in our practice, though usually not as dramatic as what you experienced. It's supposed to be the most gentle, benign, 'natural' spray out there, but it caused my horse's sheath to swell up to the size of a milk cow's udder and then his skin sloughed off like it was burnt....it took me quite by surprise because he has very tough black skin and has never had any other trouble with allergies or skin irritations. I guess it's just another example of how you can't predict allergic reactions.
