RE: [RC] rough trot - heidiDoes anyone here have any ideas for a very ROUGH trotting quarter horse? He's 2, and we're just starting, doing a lot of bending, circling to try to round him out. But he's so rough you can hardly get yourself thru the excercise, any ideas???? At 2, he is still a baby and is still having a hard time with his own balance, let alone coping with a rider. Bending and circling may actually be more damaging than helpful, given his age, as it puts a lot more torque on immature joints and spine. If his conformation is suggestive of better motion, I'd suggest just being patient and waiting for him to grow up. I'd also work more on exercises such as cavaletti to help him achieve some self-carriage--but at this age, preferably without a rider on board.
