I too just finally received four copies of this
fabulous photo journal depicting such an Historical event. I went to Amazon last
February to order these books for myself and some riding friends and after
months of waiting, Amazon finally gave up telling me they could not get the
books. I was so disappointed!
I then went on line and found a site for Virl
Norton the winner of this race and through reading about him I found a link to
the Lewis Boys in Kansas. I contacted Curt and Larry and sho'nuff! they have the
books still and I was able to buy directly from them....autographed
too!!
If anyone doesn't have this book or wants
to have a copy I highly suggest getting it. Seeing Tom Sites in there and
knowing him from RC was a thrill. Also to see my inspiration out here in the
West...Hope Lunquist and she placed in the top twenty was really spectacular. I
also read that Karen Vilander that I rode to finish at Redwood last year
finished in this race too. It is just a mindblower of a ride and book, one I
will treasure for always.
Larry Lewis is listed in AERC and his email
addy is there if anyone wants to contact him for the book. Larry and his brother
Curt are super nice guys and funny to boot. Larry was the trail marker and Curt
was the author of the book. Great stories in the book and I am sure Tom and
others still around could fill us in on the really juicy stuff.
I am dying to see Hope at some rides as the
Lewis boys told me she could tell me some off the record stories, ahem. Yoo
Hoo,Hope! coming to Pacific Crest??? I will have a chair for you next to
me.
