Re: [RC] Prineville-another perspective - heidiWhat I *did* see was a BLM stallion (5 months off the range) gallop past us on the rocky road before the single track. I then heard yelling, and looked up to see the BLM palomino lunging at another horse. <snip> The BLM rider asked me if I was ok. I said no. She continued her ride. What more can I say? Sounds like herein lies most of the problem, as others have stated. Can't remember who posted suggesting that this rider should have been DQ'd--I would have to agree. I've been in situations with out-of-control stallions, and they are pretty scary. In one case, I was on a mare that wasn't overly fit, and had two riders race by me up a single-track on a steep and slick hillside. My mare could not outdistance the offending stallion--so I had no choice but to turn around in the trail and meet him head-on, and fend him off as best I could. It wasn't pretty, but we managed. Same stallion had crashed into other horses at the start (with rider mounted!) and had nearly caused bad accidents there as well. (I was afoot at the time, having not yet gotten on my mare--and I was knocked to the ground but was not hurt.) I dearly love stallions, and have ridden several over the years. But they MUST be under control! People who bring stallions like this one to rides make it more difficult for all of us. I'd REALLY hate to be on another stallion with one like this loose! I'd be interested to hear if RM took action about this one or not.
