Re: [RC] Prineville-another perspective - Diane TrefethenMary Carroll wrote:I am the one with the punctured lung and broken leg. I saw what happened in the first part of the 25. I didn't see the horse with the saddle under his belly, but heard that happened. What I *did* see was a BLM stallion (5 months off the range) gallop past us on the rocky road before the single track. I then heard yelling, and looked up to see the BLM palomino lunging at another horse. My horse freaked-it was not a question of training at that point. If I understand this, there was a stallion at the ride who either ran away and then tried to attack another horse or was galloped by his rider and then tried to attack another horse. IF either scenario is correct, the offending horse/rider should have been DQ'd. In addition, RM should send a formal letter to the rider advising her of why she was disqualified and what her appeal options are. When you ride a stallion, you have a special responsibility to keep that horse in hand at all times. With geldings and mares, a kick or runaway is usually just that, ie, ONE kick when crowded or a runaway that will slow down at some point. But with stallions, the potential that the horse will escalate the situation, especially if he feels HE is in control, not the rider, is high. Thus the threat to other horses and people is considerably greater. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
