RE: [RC] Epics w/out heelstrap - DreamWeaver

What did you do about the cleats? I tried the Epics yesterday (over bare
feet) after I smashed down the cleats & covered them with duct tape.

The other problem I had was that they rubbed his coronet band and I had to
cut them back there, too.

Whenever I have lost a plastic cleat, I've used duct tape to cover them. I found that if I tighten the screws a bit more, the plastic pieces will stay put and you can't take them off even if you pull on them. I may still use duct tape, just because it seems wrong to do a ride without using it somehow <bg>. ;)

If the boots are tall enough to be touching the coronet band, maybe a smaller size would work? I only mention that because my horse always took a size 2 easyboot over shoes, there is no way you could have gotten a size 1 on before, but now that he is barefoot, I can get the size 1 on -- even tho when you hold it up to the bottom of his foot the boot matches it almost identically width-wise. I know some people have told me that the new boots are sized smaller, -- I think maybe it depends on the individual shape of the foot. In this case, my horses feet are round and the new model boot (with the tongue) seems to fit over it like a glove. It's a rather snug fit -- and I can still ride him in a size 2 boot without it coming off, but the 1's don't go up as high and are like a glove, so I've been using those. His foot width is the same across at the widest point as my other horse who still does require a 2 (because he has shoes on, but also because his feet are bigger overall), so there is more to the sizing than just one measurement.
