[RC] Things to know before 100's - mkrumlawI'm not an expert as I've only finished 5 of the 8 or 9 I've started...but.... 1.) Don't over think the whole 100 thing. They are really much easier than they sound. 2.) Body Glide IS a good thing. 3.) Practice riding in the dark before you have to do it in competition. It's a bit weird when you can't see the horse or the terrain and the horse "drops" out from under you because he hit a dip. 4.) Pick a ride that's well run. It sucks to get lost in the dark on a new trail when it's not well marked. 5.) YOU must eat and drink all day. 6.) Dressage is your friend. 7.) Have a crew with a sense of humor. 8.) Take Advil BEFORE something hurts. 9.) NEVER down cold Welch's Grape juice on a hot day/night after you finish. I felt great when I got off of the horse...almost died after the "grape juice incident." I also agree with one of the other posts. Changing clothes and washing your face and neck are wonderful pick me ups. I've also noticed both when riding and working 100 mile rides that the horses "in general" sort of hit a wall around 65 to 85 miles and then start to really pick back up. Good luck and enjoy it!
