When I got a rescue mare....we had an approximate age. She was in neighborhood of 5 at the time....so it was able to determine by teeth. First thing I did when vet checked her out was have note on her vet papers of what age vet felt she was....so when I did sell her I could give that to buyer..... You never know....I have seen 18 year old horses with mouths that looked more like 7-8.....
