Re: [RC] Allergy to Dixie Midnight? - Sisu West Ranch
"...her as allergies sometimes react more strongly
to a second exposure..."
Actually, the initial reaction you notice has to be
at least a second exposure. The first exposure to an allergen is a freebe,
that just starts the body building antibodies, in an allergic individual the
next and following exposures the reaction gets worse and worse until you can
really develop a problem.
Classically in humans, but it works in horses also,
the treatment is to carefully identify the allergen, and then expose the subject
to the allergen in carefully selected, and increasing amounts on a regular
schedule over a long time. The hope is that enough specific antibodies
will be created, and maintained that the offending substance will be bound and
eliminated before the inflammatory response can happen and cause a
problem.
The other treatement is to prevent exposure to the
allergen. If Dixie is causing problems, use a different pad.
