[RC] Teaching a horse to pony - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

In order for a horse to pony well it must know how to lead well.
I figured that out when trying to pony my 3 yr old when I first
bought her. Never occured to me she wouldn't get the concept of
moving forward when she felt pressure from the halter. Ponying
her was like dragging a bag of cement, not fun.

So, I spent a couple of weeks on leading lessons on the ground
(just leading her carrying a lunge whip and if she didn't move
forward with me when I moved forward, said "walk" and put a
little pressure on the halter, I'd tap her butt with the whip).
After understanding that concept she now ponies like a pro.
Have fun.
Karen.
