[RC] riding shoes - GarnerTI thought I had solved my riding shoe problems when I purchased my Ariat Terrains, but I am having real problems with the side of my right foot. Last week on my normal training ride, the outside of my right foot was hurting so badly, that I had to keep walking & taking my foot out of the stirrup. I have purchased some new stirrups with the safety cage, so I can use tennies. I bought them & took them to a week long environmental camp with my 6th graders to break them in. It was pouring rain & my feet didn't get wet (it's true - they ARE waterproof), but I got a huge blister on my left heel after only about 1 1/2 mile hike. I switched to my older hiking boots & thought that given time, the left boot would break in - wrong. At $80, I can't afford to be experimenting with this boot & that boot. Until you ride in them, you don't know how they're going to feel. I have a size 7, fairly wide foot, but I think the Ariats are just a tad too wide, so my foot slides over to the edge of the boot & all the pressure of my leg is on that edge. The left boot has finally quit causing blisters, but now I'm dealing with the right. They have barely been worn, but I'm going to quit using them.
