RE: [RC] jumping electric fences - Mike SofenAs Jonni requested, I jumped my horse over her 5 foot electric fence and just as we were going over, I leaned WAY over and grabbed the hot wire. Unfortunately, in my glee over not getting electrocuted, I forgot to let go, and I discovered the meaning of "air brakes". You are quite correct, a ground is needed for all regular hot wire systems, thus the horse sailing over the fence would never get shocked. HOWEVER - they don't seem to know this. It is my impression that they connect the dots between a vertical place where they get shocked and an action of attempting to leap over that vertical place, and simply don't. Mike -----Original Message----- So, if a horse is only brushing a hot wire as it sails over, and it's feet are not touching the ground as it does touch the fence (thus, not "grounded") would the horse even feel the electric shock? I am not coordinated enough to jump real high off the ground, and in mid air, reach out and touch my electric fence to test this theory, but Mike might be willing to try..... ;-) Jonni =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
