Re: [RC] My take on Aladinn - heidiIf I recall my history correctly, the Russians didn't just "import" their Polish Arabs, they stole them, taking them as spoils of war in WW2. Gen. Patton rescued some of the Polish horses from the Germans (including Witez II) and the Russians took the rest of them. Some of their stock of that era, yes. But even earlier than that, the Russians DID have a breeding program, and actually, Skowronek was born on Russian soil, not Polish, if you want to get right down to it. Russia, like Poland, also imported horses from Crabbet in the pre-WWII days. It is what the Russians have done post-WWII that is of concern to me--like Poland, they have continued to breed a few classical sorts of Arabians, but like Poland, they have also gotten into their own version of this modern "craze" and in fact have imported a lot of modern Polish horses that are all too similar to some of the modern Polish horses coming here. One can indeed find some very nice Russian horses. But in many cases both in pedigree and type it is difficult to distinguish some of them from the modern Polish horses.
