Re: [RC] NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE - Joe LongOn Mon, 21 Mar 2005 17:58:25 -0800 (PST), abigail Madden <run_rosko_run@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Exactly!!!! The hydroplaning is not caused by the cruise. The cruise merely inhibits your ability to regain control quickly when you start to hydroplane. The cause of the hydroplaning is that most people drive too @#$%^&* fast for the roadway conditions. So, Drive to Arrive, be alert and back off on the accelerator a bit. Another thing everyone with anti-lock brakes should do is practice using them on an open, snow- or ice-covered parking lot. Antilock brakes feel "funny" when they go into effect (they pulsate, or shudder), causing many people to come off the brake thinking something's wrong with the vehicle. Doing this can be fatal. You need to get used to what antilock brakes feel like BEFORE you need them in an emergency. Hmmm ... speaking of shudder, I shudder to think what might happen if you have to make a sudden stop on a slippery surface when the truck has antilock brakes, and the trailer does not ... jacknife city ... -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
