I have not tried the Moody Mare, etc, but I know people who
have.  I think it is a case of try it and see if it works for 
your horse.  However, if you are like me and my horses, if it
is easy or a cheaper alternative it ain't gonna work for you.
Although I have no scientific basis for the following statement
I have heard that sometimes the mare's first spring heat is the
worst (or at least that is what I am hoping for). So if you
try the alternatives, it may just be chance that she calms down
and she would have otherwise.  But if you try it and it works,
let everyone know.
