[RC] rattlesnake avoidance training for dogs - DreamWeaverWe took our dog to one of those classes. Rattlesnakes supposedly give off a different odor from other snakes, and most dogs are instinctively wary of them....but not all. My worry was that the dog would just be cruising along the trail and end up as snake bait. At the class, the instructor said that he'd never seen a dog so instinctively afraid of rattlesnakes as ours, so I am not sure she really needed the class or not <G>. I've had far too many close encounters with snakes that I still feel it was worth it, and she comes to a lot of rides where there are rattlesnakes. Come to think of it, the last snake encounter was at Coso in November. Luckily, Becky H. saw it first, it was probably only a foot long but coiled up and ready to strike, and if your horse were to step on it, it would have disappeared completely. By the time we got into the vet check the story was that there was this killer monster snake out there, probably nineteen feet long (and it had six inch fangs and moved like the snake in the movie "anaconda") :+D.
