i was told by vet and have had success in using diaperine, it is the zinc 
oxide ointment in it that works and you can buy it straight in a 
tube.  idea is to keep the areas dry so they can heal.

some are very painful and movement causes them to crack open so riding 
would depend upon that i 'spose.
