RE: [RC] Eastern Mojave Ride Photos - Steph TeeterNice photos! And a wonderful ride. The first day we wound up through the mountains and it was stunningly beautiful. An amazing array of plants - some of the plants I recognized in one square mile section - pinon, juniper, mesquite, sagebrush, saltbush, winterfat, bitterbrush, cholla, barrel catus, prickly pear, yucca, greasewood, creosote, hopsage - plus all the grasses and smaller perennials. And very dramatic rock formations. We even had a skiff of snow at the higher elevations, and some of the higher ridges had fog banks rolling in and out of the sunshine. Plus I saw a huge coal-black burro, he was as surprised as my horse was :) I can see why this area was set aside as a National Preserve, it is very special. The second day was mostly through Joshua tree (huge!) stands, with an early stretch of rocky 2-track, followed by miles and miles of perfect footing, riding around a large granite based dome with outcrops in strange places. I learned that Joshua trees (actually a yucca) do not 'give' like the branches of ordinary trees. They will try to knock you off your horse if you play too close. I hope Dave keeps this one on the calendar, and maybe adds another day or two. Nice ride! Brown ears are Weaver's, grey ones are Rocky. :-) The guy in the red jacket is John Teeter and the other John is on a white Icelandic named Remington. If I get caught up I'll add commentary to the photos. That may take awhile, lol, I'm pretty behind right now.
