Re: [RC] about vets and feet - Chris PausWell said Heidi. I'm a journalist too, have been for nearly two decades, and have won numerous awards for my work.... that said, the biggest thing I've learned in journalism is that there are two sides to every story! The other thing I've learned is to dig deeper. Things almost are never as they seem on the surface.... We are very lucky where I live to have exceedingly competent vets and farriers. I know of three nearby equine practices who work closely with farriers on hoof issues. When there's a problem, they take x-rays, study the feet, and come up with a solution... the vet and farrier together. I love the fact that they work together, each applying his or her expertise to find the best solution for the horse. It's one thing that keeps me where I am geographically. We also are close to K-State vet school which is establishing a new lameness diagnostics lab. I'd say the students there do study the hooves and their relationship to the legs and the rest of the horse for far more than 9 credit hours. I'd be willing to guess they spend semesters on it! chris --- heidi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: The sad part about this sort of discussion is thatit presents an "either-or" scenario. What one REALLY needs in the best interests of one's horses is a GOOD veterinarian AND a GOOD farrier (or "hoof care specialist") who will work WITH each other, and who respect each other's expertise.
