Adding on - 1 in 250,000 seems like it is very dilute, but that's 4 parts
per million. There's several billions, maybe trillions of molecules of the
venom (depending on lots of things, like how big is a whole dose, and how
the molecule is put together) - that's enough to do something, especially
with someone allergic. If they use too much, they'll send you to the
hospital, which tends to be bad for both you and their malpractice premiums.

I do indeed have a problem with the "Better living through chemistry" bunch
of hogwash that's been perpetrated - go ahead and completely abuse your
system, the little blue pill will save you - BS. I'm also well aware that
quite a few of our medicines started out as herbal remedies - up here we
have a problem with foxglove, which is digitalis - very well known cardiac
medicine and poison in larger doses. That said, I tend to be skeptical of
homeopathy. Stuff that really works can be proven by double-blind studies,
whether it's herbs or the latest man-made molecule from the big companies.
I'm not aware of any double-blind studies showing homeopathy works. I do
know that at least with people, if you give them sugar pills that look
fancy, a large number of them will feel better - it's called the placebo
effect.

There are two significant differences here.

First, allergy shots have been scientifically tested and the 
results published in peer review journals.
Second, they start with small doses then work up to large 
doses.  Homeopathy starts with doses several trillion times 
more dilute and stays there.
