If you are doing your first 50 that is not the time to bring a junior rider along.....Alice, do a 50 first and judge what you will be subjecting your daughter to. That is the only way to know if you are conditioning appropriately. I would no way bring my kid out for a 50 if it was also MY first 50 (way too paranoid for that!). At the risk of posting a "me, too" post--this is REALLY good advice! The families who have happy and successful juniors of younger ages are families who ride regularly and whose kids have already been watching parents and sometimes older siblings doing this. I'd not only suggest doing a distance first before taking your child, I'd go one step further and suggest being very solid and comfortable at that distance yourself before taking your child.
