It is a good thought Heidi , and I do not know if that could of been the 
cause but I have also done that trail at least three other times over the 
last two years going up that same wash with no problems ? I'm not sure if it 
matters or not but my mare is not hyper at the start of a ride she wants to 
go but is very well behaved and I can usually ride her on a pretty loose 
rein even when she does get excited . No jumping around or fighting with her 
.
