Re: [RC] re: [RC] Itchiness due to sweat accumulation - heidiAfter any ride, our horses find the itchiness under the bridle and around the corners of the mouth nearly intolerable. While I control their desire to rub on me, I remove the bridle as soon as possible and let them rub on the hitching post. Some of our horses are "itchy-er" than others. My stallion "Junior" was always a REALLY itchy boy. I got good-naturedly chided from time to time for having "taught" him the appropriate way to rub on me--he was not allowed to just rub indiscriminately, but learned very quickly that he would be "allowed" only when I would turn a hip toward him and brace myself so that his rubbing would not push me off-balance. This got to be a standard routine for him when I would take off his bridle at vet checks. He also learned to come politely up to me and "ask" for this, instead of just butting me with his head.
