[RC] re: [RC] Transporting and adapting a horse to a move - Trail PalAmy said: "so would have to find transport from MN to AZ. I am sure this will cost me quite a bit? How hard will it be for my horse to go from trees, gentle ground and winter to hot, dry and cactus and mountains? Would it be easier all around to sell and buy something from AZ? Has anyone has experience with this? Thanks so much! Amy" Amy - I moved my horse from Maryland (rolling green hills and woods) to Los Angeles. He adapted very well, though you need to be prepared for some reactions to novelties (he'd never seen a palm frond before, much less one on the ground, went from country living to urban living, suddenly riding on streets with motorcycles, school buses and barking dogs). My current horse moved from LA to Nebraska, and has taken about a year to adapt to living in an area larger than 12x24 and growing enough hair and putting on enough fat for the cold. He also gets surprised by all the pheasants, deer and coyotes, but has taken it all in stride. Prices to move your horse vary by season and hauler - ask around. A year ago, it cost $750 to move my horse from LA to Nebraska in the fall. I think - if you have much time and/or emotion in your horse, it's better to take him with you; he will adapt in a short time. (I also think it's easier for a "cold" horse to adapt to the "warm" than the other way around.) my 2cents Rosalie ===== Rosalie Marley Ride the Tiger! http://TigerHorseFarms.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
