Excuse me, but have you ever seen a thermograph of a shod foot and leg as
compared to one without a shoe?  Do check it out!

Here is what the web page says that you linked us to....   "When I first got a thoroughbred gelding named "Gunman", I put him in horseshoes. He had a long spell without shoes before I purchased him and was in shoes regularly for the next four years. ?After some foot problems (which I believed came about by infections in old nail holes resulting in a farrier cutting away most of the front of his left front hoof and then becoming lame for eight months), I spelled him unshod for about a year.? The price of shoeng a horse went up and my wife decided that for Christmas she would make a gift of farrier's apron and a farrier's course.? She bought a book on what she thought was basic farrier knowledge. ? In fact, she purchased a book advocating something quite different!?

Infections in nail holes??  If you have a crappy farrier don't call all farriers crappy. Pay attention to what your farrier is doing.

I have seen far too many sore on all 4 hooves barefoot horses to EVER advocate going barefoot at a rocky, dififcult ride.  I also think that riding barefoot and then booting them or throwing shoes on them the week before a ride is not a good option (too much change at once).  NOTHING is wrong with steel shoes if done properly.  I felt all of my horses hooves today...guess what? They were all warm!!! Only one had shoes on <gasp>   I wonder WHEN the circulation will be cut off and his feet will fall off.  I'll let ya know when that happens.  If its like my horse, Harca, it will be well after  his 6th Tevis finish....all with those nasty steel shoes and those nasty nails.

Don't you love how this lead in page for the barefoot thing is all cost driven? The "Wife" didn't want to pay for horse shoes anymore so she gave him a book on how to trim his own horses.  I could give my husband the same type of book on how to change the oil in his Porsche....there's a difference here don't you think?  Give me a break.
