So Jonni,

Let me see if have it right. The people that show up and toss their dogs out for other people to feed are rabid barefoot racing LDers that come gunning for Howard and have been know to throw their easy boots at the competition as they pass then in dangerous narrow sections of trail as they are running hell bent for leather over rocks chasing down Howard.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Got all the hot button sterotypes in the one post.

The gun going off could spook some horse that the rider is bent over
underneath it, trying to put easy boots on, as they always ride barefoot,
(and are so proud of it) but they see this ride has rocks, so they don't
want to make their horse sore because it has no hoof protection. And you
know, being a LD rider, they need to be able to go really fast, as they are
chasing those year end points, and they don't want sore feet to slow them
down. Especially if Howard is at the ride. You know he ALWAYS races......
