Re: [RC] cold feet and hands - Mary SutliffHere is what I've found works for cold fingers and toes. First be sure your core body is warm. Your hands and feet will stay warmer if your core, legs and arms are warm. Wear a hat under your helmet. For hands mittens are warmer than gloves but be sure gloves are not tight. Your blood needs to be able to circulate. Same goes for feet. If two pairs of socks make your boots too tight wear only one wool pair. Wear NO COTTON. Fleece or wool or other synthetic insulation is best. Down is no good if it gets wet. Then there are Hand and Toe Warmers. They are wonderful! You can find them at most sporting goods stores. REI for sure. You can also order them online directly from the manufacturer-search under Toe Warmers. Put a thermos of some sort of hot drink in your saddle bags (nonalcoholic) . I live in Western Washington and usually what we have to deal with is wet and cold so good raingear is a neccessity. I came to horses from a background of hiking and mountain climbing and we didn't stop those activities in the winter so I had to learn how to keep home. (Imagine staying in a snow cave at 6000' or more in the dead of winter). =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
