Lif - I just posted this to AERC Forum in response to the same question:

This is a good question. On one form, it indicated that "AERC tracks 100 
mile points" so you didn't have to submit your rides. I am not sure what 
that means.

I should point out that the distance awards referenced above are free AHA 
programs.

For those that are interested, this year at convention, we passed a 
resolution allowing horse and amateur achievement awards points to be earned 
for LD rides [not just endurance].
